Central Dizziness
Central dizziness can be described as dizziness related to a non-otologic (non ear-related) cause, such as a stroke, traumatic head injury, or vestibular migraine. Central dizziness or motion-provoked dizziness is associated with the brain and disruption to the neuronal pathways that go between the brain and the body. Central dizziness can be caused by a focal (specific) or global (general) lesion. Physical therapy treatment for central dizziness may include habituation exercises, which is repeated exposure to a provocative stimulus in an attempt to create a decreased response to that stimulus (e.g. repeated rolling in bed will decrease the individual's dizziness during this movement). The treatment may also include static and dynamic balance exercises and gait training.
